Backend Tech Lead

We are looking for a Backend Tech Lead who is not only ready to write and review code but also to lead people, processes, and the technical strategy of an entire engineering direction.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys building processes, developing people, and finding pragmatic solutions between “perfect” and “on time”.

• Joining a mature engineering environment. You won’t need to build processes from scratch - we already have a Levelling Framework, Engineer/Team Lead/Tech Lead responsibility matrices, and documented hiring and development processes

Key Responsibilities:

• Defining the technical strategy for Backend and DevOps directions at JatApp — creating a multi-quarter roadmap aligned with business goals and the Head of Engineering’s vision

• Owning the Platform team responsible for building solutions for product teams — prioritizing technical initiatives based on product needs, conducting reviews, and synchronizing work across engineering units

• Managing teams through Team Leads — providing functional management for Team Leads and Backend/DevOps engineers, conducting 1:1 meetings, setting and reviewing goals, running performance cycles, developing engineering leaders, and participating in hiring from the first month

• Acting as a technical authority for product teams across internal services, payment flows, S2S attribution, App2Web/Web2App infrastructure, and other core technical areas

• Ensuring infrastructure stability — maintaining CI/CD standards, improving monitoring and reliability of the Kubernetes platform, and optimizing cloud costs across AWS/DigitalOcean

• Managing technical integrations and external vendors — preparing technical requirements, supporting vendor communication, and conducting technical due diligence for new products

• Reviewing technical designs and ensuring engineering solutions align with the company’s long-term strategy

• Communicating with Project Managers and Product Heads — explaining complex technical decisions in a clear, non-technical way

What We Are Looking For:

• 3+ years of experience in a Lead role

• 5+ years of backend development experience with PHP/Laravel plus at least one additional language (Go/Node.js/Python/Kotlin), with experience designing and working with microservice architectures

• Strong DevOps background — Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, GitLab CI/CD; experience with AWS/DigitalOcean cloud environments, including cost optimization

• Experience designing high-load systems — RabbitMQ, Redis, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse; experience with observability stacks (Grafana, Loki, Kibana)

• Experience with payment integrations and subscription models — PSPs, Apple/Google Billing, 3DS, S2S event attribution

• Experience managing teams through Team Leads (second-line management) — managing 2+ teams, 8+ engineers, and owning technical backlogs

• Hands-on experience using AI development tools (Claude Code/Copilot) and integrating LLM solutions into products

Will Be a Plus:

• Experience working in product companies with subscription or Web2App business models

• Experience working with hardware vendors / embedded systems (OTA updates, secure boot, bootloader) — we currently have a project with an external hardware partner

• Experience with AppsFlyer, deeplinks, and attribution systems

• Experience building hiring processes, levelling frameworks, and responsibility matrices
